Do You Teach From The Inside Out?

When teaching ballet (especially new steps) to your students do you work from the inside out? If not you are making it ten times as hard and ten times as long for your student to absorb and internalize the step to the point where it becomes muscle memory.
The first question you need to ask yourself is “WHAT IS MOTIVATING THE MOVEMENT?” As with everything you want to start with correct alignment so you begin with a stable base, then think about what energy patterns you would need to apply to go from position A to position B. Explain to your student where the center of gravity and weight distribution is at the beginning of the step and where it will be at the end of the step. Once you help the student visualize the energy and movement patterns they will be using, make sure that the initiating impulse is a breath ¬†AAAAAND exhale.
