Starting Point (The 3 A’s)

Making students aware of their body before they begin to move or execute a step or combination is crucial. Assuming they are already in position with correct alignment and placement(balance), what then?
When starting a car you must first turn on the ignition and start the motor idling before putting the vehicle in gear to move forward. Likewise the dancer’s body should be prepared to move. The 3 A’s – three words that could best describe this neutral feeling are awareness, alertness, and anticipation. A feeling within the body of neither ‘pulled up’ or overly relaxed but somewhere in between where the dancer is completely prepared to move.
