Using Imagery for Optimal Results in Dance
RPM uses many visual and mental cues to train dancers and we all know that dance happens as much in the mind as in the body. Using imagery is a great tool that not only athletes but dancers as well can utilize to achieve optimum results.
Imagery goes well beyond mere visualization in that you use all your senses to create in your mind the perfect performance. Studies have shown that mentally rehearsing choreography in addition to the actual physical rehearsal produces better results than just rehearsal alone.
Wouldn’t this be a wonderful tool to give to your student?
Here is a great article by Sanna Nordin-Bates PhD, CPsychol, FIADMS on behalf of the IADMS Education Committee, on strategies using imagery for your dance students.
